IT WORKS! I looked behind the air bag, nothin'. I looked in the steering colomn, nothin'. I checked/ changed fuses, nothin'. I jiggle some wires and the darn thing starts working, go figure? Nah, I'm sure it was a combo of all the above, so thanks everyone. My advice to anyone else with is problem... jiggle the wires first. Ha.

...it could go out again. Sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere.

I'm Kinda Dumb

When I bought my '01 Ex several years ago, the cruise wasn't working (and I had a 400 mile drive from point of purchase home!). Since I am too dumb to turn a wrench, my mechanic replaced a switch, or motor or control box or something like that under the hood. It lies underneath the brake master cylinder and slight leakage from it can foul the innards of the switch. He said it is a common problem and an easy repair on these trucks. I think it was about $70 parts and labor.

I had issues with my cruise control as well. I had some brake fluid leaking down the fuse harness. I replaced the valve and the fuse, cleaned it all up and used a bunch of dielectric grease. Works great now!

Eric, I know exactly what your talkin' about after more searching I found it was the same thing. I replaced the valve, that was leaking, and did the diode grease and now I'm sure I should be good for a long while. Thanks for the extra input guys, it'll really help others out, I should have updated.

I had to replace the brake pressure switch on mine. my cruise went out and later I found the switch leaking, the same switch they attach the recall harness to. what happens is the switch would leak and could create a fire. installed new switch and all has been fine!

My cruise control was working intermittenly and now won't engage at all. The cruise light comes on but is not engaging. Does this sound like the leaky break fluid sympton?
Many thanks!

I can't be sure. When I bought my Ex it didn't work period. Never could make it come on. So, I don't know if it was an intermittent problem which finally became permanent or not. Sorry, know that's not any help.

I've got a cruise problem as well. Push the "on" button, then "set accel" and the dash light comes on, but it will not hold speed at all. Add one more thing to the project list...

I'm still around, just luuuurking. My advice to everyone is to make sure your brake reservoir gromets aren't leaking either. That can get fluid leaking and short and corrode things. Just wiggle it a little bit, if they're bad you'll know. I thought my SECOND brake pressure switch was leaking but upon further inspection it was coming from the reservoir.

There was another thread where someone couldn't get their truck to start and I thought about the whole tap on that silver thing fix, but I had no idea how to explain it to them so I just let them get all technical.

WAHOOOOO!!!!!! Got my cruise control fixed! It was the cruise control servo. $35 at a local salvage yard. Took 20 minutes to replace. I am a happy camper now. As some others above stated the Cruise light would come on but cruise wouldn't engage. Everything passed on the self diagnostic test I could hear the servo cycle except couldn't see the cable move so I thought it had to be the servo. Anyway happy days are here again!!!
