79 F-150 Stepside Restoration

79 F-150 4x4 in pretty bad shape. These are the only pics of the truck together as we started to dismantle almost immediately. Follow the pics below to see where we are with the build at this time. Anyone with access to a straight front dana 44 and a c6 transmission post back to us, i think the truck was ran pretty hard.

Looks good. I am in the process of doing a 79 2wd.

You might want to edit your 1st post and put a space between the picture codes. It's tough to read the way it is.

Fully stripped the frame and got ready for painting.Used KBS brand paint system with a rust remover and rust sealer on parts and on the frame. The process was smooth and I was pleased with the product.
Before:

frame in the engineered tri-stands

nice project,,
fyi if the data is true that i have been told,, they only made 718.. 4x4 stepsides in 79,,
keep that in mind when you start re-assembly,,

i have both a 78 4x4 stepside--mountain/trail rig,,

and a cleaner 79 4x4 stepside--it has the original block and trans etc.. going thru the engine currently,,

good luck and keep the post and pictures going

I also have a '70 F-150 step side 4x4. I've just about finished up the mechanical repaires and have gutted the interior which was trashed!! I have also been working on repairing the electrcal wiring that the PO had jury ridded big time. I hope to have it up and running and drivable soon.

Ironman, there is a place up near Akron OH that the owner has a "gold mine" of old Fords and parts. It's called Todd's Garage in Norton OH. He may be able to help with parts, if it's not too far for you.

have to make a call tomorrow to BDS suspension. no instructions for rear lift and not sure whether to reuse the factory blocks, if so the ubolts supplied aren't long enough. everything that was loose is now bolted on, will be idle for a little while on the frame until front axle and engine and repaired. gotta say really happy with it so far.

Grandpa has been hard at work on the body, some pics of his progress

Finally found another front axle housing although the carrier gears were missing all the teeth. Charlie at 4WD Specialty in Richmond, VA put everything together, new bearings, new universals, new seals, practically brand new. Wish I knew how to set it up, don't' have that experience. Anyway, epoxy painted the front axle and all the other parts to get ready to put under the frame, hopefully, have a rolling chassis in the next couple of days. Found a shop to repair the front cab mount, the next thing to do is learn to weld.
