I agree. A new study is due to the many new products out there, that we have to rely on so heavily. Don't have any idea how it could get implemented. but it would be nice[/quote]

A new study would be good and I actually looke into it. But it's not cheap! The lubicity test alone is $430.00 per sample (with 40% discount). This is $ Canadian. See .pdf file.

Thanks

Aw, come on now Darren! That's WAY cheaper than a helicopter ride for one of your sleds!

But not nearly as much fun

Problem is a guy would need to do a base fuel test and then would want to test 5 - 8 different products. So it would be $3 - $5,000.00.

Sure sounds like Bosch should step up and do this sort of a test! I would think if a big magazine would organize such a test, they could probably get all the participants to cover the cost. I mean who wouldn't want to see their product come out on top of something like this in a magazine article?

Pretty sure all the manufacturers are just to scared to go up against Stanadyne (just kidding)

As far as who makes the Motorcraft cetane boost, I was told a few years back by a Ford parts manager that Ford buys it from Chemtech which is a Australian Co.

Either Ford buys the booster direct from the manufacture (i.e. their formula), OR someone else makes the booster based on Ford's specifications. Now IF Ford uses an "on the shelf" booster, THEN I would rather use Opti-Lube instead of PM-22. It seems that Opti-Lube has better resultss than other brands, based on the really long ago tests. I don't think that PM-22 was mentioned in the tests. New tests are needed.

Based on that test from 2007 I have switched from Ford to Schaeffer Diesel Treat 2000. I would rather use one of the better products and not have a problem than use Ford's product and then have to fight it out with them if something happens. Granted it's an older test and Ford's product was not on there, however, the ones that are generally used and thought very good such as Power Service and Stanadyne did not do as well as I would have thought.

Schaeffer does not say anything about alcohol on their label or their website so I emailed them. I was told that none of their fuel treatments have alcohol in them.

I just started using it but my milage seems to be back up to what it was this summer, but with winter fuel. Seems better than what I was getting with Motorcraft. Will have to wait and see.

I would have gone with Opti-lube but they are currently out until mid November and I can also get the Schaeffer locally.

Great thread guys, now I almost know the deal about Cetane boosters are all about. So I bought a brand new 2012 last week and took it for my first fill up 1/3 left added 2/3. 22 gallons #2 ULSD in California Chevron station. I did not add any Cetane booster but did the dealer put some in for me? They did not tell me anything about it but luckily my car has only 320 miles on it. I should start using it and did I damage my car? lol

Added 4oz to the first full fill up on my brand new 2015 F350 yesterday. I can feel the difference as it mixed in and taste engine git a taste of it. Maybe it's my imagination.. but the new truck felt sort of "looser' I can't think of another way to describe it :-)

I just hit 300 miles on the clock last night.
