Great stories guys and thanks for sharing. It seems that about the time that Ford dialed these 5.4's in 100%, they replaced them with something new.

I have an 09 FX4 with 77K on it and absolutely love the truck. My mileage seems to be more in the 15/17 range with the 5.4 and 3.73 rearend. I just recently had to replace the ball joints on both sides becuase one side was shot and the other had some play. Mechanic said it'd probably due to the larger tires I put on it. Either way I am very pleased with the truck.

O4XLT you might want to have them look at your upper ball joints. The only bad thing about the uppers is you have ot replace the upper control arm as well since they are built right into it.

I had all that checked out last time it was in the shop and they all seemed to be fine. I have some play in the tie rod end and if I hold my had on I and have someone turn the wheel it vibrates quite a bit and makes a grinding noise

I see... I wasn't experiecing anything like that. I would just get like a hard loose "thunk" when I hit bumps... I had the mech check my tie rod ends and they were good thats when he found it to be the Upper ball joints on mine.

Had my '10 FX4 for one year this month, and so far all is good. MPG's right now is low 14's until the winter blend fuel kicks in soon. Having a 157" wheel base, 373's and 4x4 doesn't give me great mileage.
