I have 656 hours and 168 idle hours with 17,528 miles. The diesel mechanic at my dealer said that the idle hours are based on a certain RPM. He said the truck with rack up idle hours if you do a lot of bumper to bumper traffic.
I have 930 total hours with 163 idle hours which represents 17.5% if my math is correct. I have 35,500~ miles on the truck. I do a lot of highway driving and a lot of Houston rush hour bumper to bumper too. I will not worry about it though; it is what it is.
I hate to bring such an old thread back to life, but has anyone figure this one out? My truck had 2 idle hours on it with only 8 miles on the clock when I bought it. I checked the other day & I had 8 hours. It has to be from sitting in traffic.

Exactly correct. Running the Forscan gauge app and flight recorder it clearly shows the idle seconds increasing every time you stop in traffic while the truck is of course in gear.
