FASS vs. Air-Dog II

I am now concerned with the HPFP failures due to water in the fuel system. During my last visit to the dealer I spoke to the mechanic and he said the OEM fuel filters do a good job filtering out derbis and water from the fuel. After reading Ricks issues with rust I would have to disagree with the mechanic and now I am wondering how much better of a job the FASS and Air-Dog filters do of removing water from the fuel. Would anyone out there have any answers or opinions? Would it be worth the investment? Darn this truck, its getting expensive to own..... just ordered the Icon level kit today!

I haven't seen if FASS offers a pump for this truck yet, but past experience with them tells me it is not worth pursuing. This engine requires a high pressure lift pump, even higher pressure than the 6.0. Low pressure FASS units seem to work just fine, but I have yet to see a high pressure unit that hasn't failed prematurely. Airdog has only performed marginally better in the high pressure market.

Both offer considerably better filtration and water separation, but if the pump isn't pumping you are no better off. Maybe the answer to that is to retain the stock lift pump/filtration unit and use a low pressure FASS to filter and feed fuel to that. I'm not sure if that is feasible or not.

Upon further investigation, FASS does not list an application for the 2011-2012 trucks. They do however offer a filter to remove demulsified water which would be a big plus!

Echo and expand on Matt's post. There are many concerns with adding any fuel filtration to the 6.7L. The largest concern is that you will almost certainly be altering the original design and leave yourself wide open to a warranty denial. A stand alone filter inserted will effect the load and possibly the pressures on the existing lift pump. It may even cause a performance issue if the HPFP can't get enough supply. An addon like AirDog includes it's own lift pump. This is intended to replace the stock system. Again major warranty concerns.

by doing so you not only change pressure but suction as well. IMO suction has is a greater relation to volume then pressure.
no amount of filters in the world will sove issues casued by emulisifed water anyway.
basicly to put it bluntly your just more or less pissing in the wind.

I wonder what their intentions are with that unit as it is listed as being preset at 10 psi? They must be feeding the factory lift pump at only 10 psi because the feed to the HPFP is supposed to be much much higher than that. They don't have installation instructions posted on their website yet so it's hard to tell.

I believe it works with the factory pump. I have never used one before so I don't have a clue. I'm pretty sure Industrial Injection and a few others are working on a new pump system as a whole.

The AirDog II is a complete lift pump replacement and filtration system. It comes in 2 flavors; fixed pressure or adjustable. It is intended to replace the existing lift pump and DFCM.

i have installed air dog systems on several 6.ol,6.4l & 6.7l trucks. it is best to install in line between fuel tank & stock dfcm. & will not have a negative affect on the factery system. unlee you dont change filters & drain water seperator. there are other systems
that do the same thing . i dont endorse any over the other.
