Completely replace the timing chain on my '72 Ford pickup with a 390 engine. Truck still won't run. Could the timing marks be off? Or might there be something wrong with the distributor?
Did you do just the chain, or the entire gear set...both gears and chain? Either way, you have to line up the marks on the gears, then put the chain on, then do a basic timing process. Pull plugs, roll engine over by hand to TDC on the compression stroke for No. 1 cylinder, make sure rotor in dist. is pointing to that cylinder...also make sure all your ignition elect. connections are in place and tight. Should turn over, fire and run at that point...but may need the timing tweaked a little.
