Thumbs up Holy Improvement, Bat Man!

As some of you know, I have a 79 F150 4x4, 300, 4 speed M/T that I bought for $1K. She runs great, but man, it took a little while to adjust to how flat-out slow it was.

Enter the new Flowmaster Super 44.

Wow. Now granted, my old exhaust was a corroded pipe to a worn out muffler to nothing. Now I have a new pipe to Super 44 (2.25" on both ends) to pipe dumping out at rear wheel. I cannot believe the improvement I got for putting $100 into this thing. Better acceleration off the line, lower cruising RPM's at 60mph and I'm assuming I'm getting better MPG.

A great improvement for us six-shooters!

Boo-yah! I felt the same difference!

I went the whole nine yards from manifolds, 2.25-inch tubing, and Flowmaster 40s to Hedmans, 2.5-inch tubing, and bullet mufflers. Took 'er out for a test drive and had a "truck-gasm".

Lower cruising rpms with an exhaust change? Explain that one, especially with a 4speed... Is your clutch not slipping as bad as it was before?

Lower cruising rpms with an exhaust change? Explain that one,
The engine is now getting the proper back pressure with a proper exhaust system is installed. With all of the leaking from the old exhaust he was wasting performance by lack of back pressure.
With an all-out race vehicle you as much free flow as you can get(but a certain amount of back pressure is still required) but in a street vehicle you need the correct balance of back pressure.

His comments and experience does not surprise me.

That myth just simply refuses to die.

Vehicle should maintain the same rpm at the same speeds regardless unless a gearing change was made. Now if he said he had a lower throttle setting at a given speed that would make sense.

This is what I was getting at. I don't care if it makes 1hp or 1000hp, if the rest of the drivetrain is unchanged, you will still be running the same rpm at 60mph with a manual trans. Automatic is a slightly different story with T/C slippage.
