So I want to put exhaust on my truck and have it have a nice clean deep rumble to it. Its a 96 F350 4x4 with auto trans and 460 motor. Should I go duals or a nice fat single?. What brand mufflers? CAT or no CAT?. I don't want a cackly truck thats obnoxious, just a nice deep rumble that will scream if I want it to.

 

On my new '96 F350/460 dually I put a Dynomax super turbo on it with just a turndown(couldn't reuse my stock dual tailpipes). Had a nice hum/rumble at idle and wasn't obnoxious going down the road. Never did get around to upgrading anything else before trading it in on a new '99 SD.

 

92 F250 4x4 460, single Flowmaster 50 series - 3" single in 3" single out with turndown after fully functional factory cat. Nice deep rumble.

 

1990 F250 460 with stock cat hooked to one flowtech redhot glasspack. To me, it's the perfect exhaust setup. It took about a month of daily driving to fully break it in. At first it didn't affect the exhaust tone a lot, but after it broke in it just grumbles at idle in a really satisfying deep tone and it roars at WOT. I personally think it sounds like a lion on the freeway.
