1952, 6v starter 215ci.

Hi guys, Did not want to highjack the other thread with this question. Since I have been driving my truck a little bit more, I have noticed that my starter has started sounding a little laggy, Iv charged my battery and haven't made any changes to the wiring so reading the other thread I assume my starter is soon to be needing a rebuild. My question is has anybody rebuilt one or have some part numbers for items needed to rebuild? Also, kinda a dumb question as well. how many bolts are there holding the starter on? I have taken the ones I saw "2 i think" but maybe I missed one some where? O and here is some pics of my truck and wife. shes expecting any day now so we took a little trip in the 52 up to the Ross Barnett reservoir to try and bounce that baby out.

I've paid to have mine rebuilt, if that counts. $135 and a day later I had a rebuilt starter. There are two bolts holding it in place. Don't pull out the bolts completely from the housing when you remove it. Otherwise it will fall apart.

Congratulations on the baby!

Usually a sluggish starter can be traced to connections that are working loose. I recently cleaned and tightened the battery cables on my '53 215 and the starter doubled in speed.

If the starter is spinning slowly you can probably fix it yourself. A gentle cleaning, greasing the bushings, polishing the commutator with fine grit sand paper, new brushes, and a bit of paint are about all there is to it. The trick to reassembly is to set the springs holding the brushes back so they are pushing on the sheet metal holder the brushes slide in. After assembly, reset the springs to pushing in on the brushes.

Ill clean the connections.not that it means anything, but its only been put together for a few months. After reading that othere post I was thinking maybe the starter might need a little freshing up. Has anybody cleaned the inside of their starter relay?

Congratulations coop! And great looking truck. I like the stance and the chrome wheel covers. What tires are you running on that?

congrats on expecting. hope everything works out well for Momma, Baby, and you.

You can get starter rebuild kits from LMC, Dennis Carpenter, EtAl. I believe even NAPA can get um too. Did you replace the battery and starter cables when you put it back together? one common mistake is to not clean the new paint off where the grounds connect. Paint can make for a troublesome insulator. I know that when it comes time for my starter I'm just gonna take it to A&B Electric, pay the $100, and get a like new starter back.

Is there no end to the uses that a classic Ford truck can be put to!?

Badger sorry I just read your question. Those are some cheap caps from ebay and some 15" 2nd hand tires. I'm holding off for a set of 16" nubs in the inside wheels.
