Ecoboost/truck camper

Has anyone put a (presumably fairly light) truck camper on an ecoboost? How does it handle it?

Sure, I towed a 8800 lbs toy hauler with mine once and it pulled excellent but ate fuel at a cyclic rate of 8-9 mpg at 55-60.

He is referring to a camper that slides into the bed of the truck.

diver110, I do not have an ecoboost with a truck camper. I have however, been looking very hard and researching for the past 2 months just which truck camper I want and which truck I am going to need in order to carry it and all of the gear that I want to haul and the boat I want to tow behind it. I would caution you that when you start adding up the weights of EVERYTHING involved that you will most likely be limiting yourself to a reguler cab with the heavy duty payload package. I would suggest that you Google "Truck Camper Magazine" and study on their forums. A whole lot of info on there that I hope will help you in some way. Good luck to you as you put this together.

Or even a 3/4 ton. They do have a version in the intermediate cab with the heavy duty payload rated at around 2900 lbs, which would work with lighter campers, but I am wondering how the rest of the truck does.

diver110, I will once again point out that I do not have an eccoboost with a truck camper myself. I will also tell you that I spent several years of my life selling these trucks and served as the "UNOFFICIAL" payload and towing "GURU" helping customers with specific hauling and or towing needs that would put them close to the legal limits of these trucks and still suit their needs for the truck if it was needed in there everyday life. I have personally had many conversations with the engineers at Ford in the past and would like to leave you with this thought. Ford is very, very conservative when placing these ratings on these trucks. Remember that they have to live and defend these ratings in court and up to an altitude of about 11,000 feet. Also remember that these trucks have to be capable of operating at these limits all day everyday. I would never suggest that anyone try and get away with exceeding the rated limits. In my part of the country the fines for being overloaded are very high, so high that it is generally cheaper to get the right truck to start with. To answer your question as to how the rest of the truck will perform for you, I will say with that it will do just fine as long as you do not go over the rating limits. If you are in a position that a 3/4 ton truck is an option for you I would suggest that you go that route. Good luck to you.
