The cardboard inside the driveshaft is likely for sound dampening, to prevent that "ringing" noise.

Very good progress!

That's what I was thinking as well. Likely the shaft had a natural harmonic resonant frequency that was undesirable.

Tractor Supply had trailer fenders for $32 each when I bought mine. Look very much like your picture.

I had told my buddie that i thought it had to be something to do with a balence issue. We just never came across it with all the driveshafts we have messed with.

Thanks for the compliments.

I got my fenders/wheel tubs in early this week and managed to get one installed today.

We still have a little more welding inside the bed to do, and then seam seal the whole thing. But im really glad I deceided to do this now before we finished mudding and priming the bed.

Awesome

now just pair it with a railroad tie (or maybe a piece of guardrail?) as the back bumper!

Well gang, the project hasn't received much attention lately.

We spent some of the winter working on my buddies 55 dodge panel truck and then my buddy ended up buying a new house this year and we just spent the last month packing up his old garage, parts around the yard, parts in the storage trailer, loading up the projects onto trailers, and ohhh... of course his wife's domain... the house.

But.... that hasn't stopped me from getting more parts for the project.

I have been on the hunt for a 2003-2007 ford crown vic p71 cruiser. I had no intention of buying one unless I found one for the right money, and the right miles. This 2006 former cruiser presented itself to me via a "wanted" add I had listed on CL. The seller started out at 2G and I ended up buying it for 1/4 of that. 114k on the speedo.

So... if you have been following this build, you have seen me rebuild the rear suspension, install new fuel and brake lines, paint the chassis, install a fuel tank, and so much more. Now I have to re-evaluate what I have done and what needs to change for this crown vic swap.

Anyone with pictures , do's or Don'ts feel free to chime in.

I already know that I will be limited to newer mustang rims, and that is fine.

The plan is to install the crown vic out front, and install either the crown rear suspension, or to install a explorer rear.

I want to run 8" wide fronts and 10" wide rears. If I have to shorten the rear axle to make the rears fit under the rear fenders so be it.

anyone good at photoshop?

My buddy and I were sitting in the new garage last night looking at the crown vic thinking what I have done, and how much more this small purchase is going to cost me.

Things I now have to buy.

New column and related components.
air conditioning system to mate with the crown vic
rear 4 link for the wider rear wheels
fuel pump and related components
and soooo much more.

And now I have stuff I bought and no longer need...
