TPMS on 09 250

I bought aftermarket wheels with bigger rubber than factory. Switched from factory 20" KR to 20x10 wheels on 35x12.5x20. The factory rubber is stamped to take up to 80psi cold and the new rubber is only rated for 65psi cold. The truck oem wheels are to have 65psi according to door stamp. When I installed aftermarket wheels my tpms light came on due to no sensors in wheels. Got tired of light on dash. Called dealer for price on bands to remove sensors from factory wheels and to install on aftermarket. Was quoted about $53 per band. Parts only. Called discount tire and was quoted $150 for swapping sensors onto aftermarket wheels including bands and resetting system. Showed up and manager gave me new sensors for aftermarket wheels. The type that connect to valve stems for same price. That way I did not have to remove old sensors. They installed new sensors, rebalanced tires, and reset tpms system in about 1.25 hrs. So now no light on dash..

So are you sharing the story or is there a question?

I don't think he reset so much as recalibrated the TPMS with the newly installed sensors. One of these days I'm gonna see about getting the valve stem sensors on mine. Just seems like a better system then the bands in my opinion. Wouldn't happen to have a p/n I can use to check my local Discount Tires?

No ? In comment just FYI 4 who may want that light off. I thought $150 was reasonable for rew sensors, rebalance and reset. Parts and labor.

I did not get part #.

Yeah, $150 sounds reasonable for the stem sensors. I'll have to hit them up and get more information next time I stop by.

Yeah Ford corp does not want the dealers to reset the monitors to a lower PSI...so now my light is on all the time and I would not know if a tire was actually losing PSI.

I think Ford should support those of us who choose to run different tires!
