How often do folks hear about plugged cats due to soot? If I look down the pipe of a non-DPF truck, it's got a decent coating of soot. Wouldn't this also build-up in a CAT passages and thus reduce its effectiveness not only in reducing emissions but also generating less heat for the DPF?
I guess regens would ultimately burn off any accumulations.
What about those with pre-DPF trucks or those who deleted their DPF?
I haven't heard of anyone plugging one yet. Although when I got my Spartan, Jeff, on their forum told me that they can eventually plug if you only do a dpf delete like I did. But no problems yet, and like I said, haven't heard of it either.
I think it's a pretty rare thing. I know most later 7.3L trucks had cats as well as all 6.0s. Never heard of one going bad except in the case of aftermarket programming combined with a DPF delete.
i recently removed my cat which had about 60,000 miles running high tunes with no dpf towing and it looked good. Holding a flashlight behide it you could light with no issues, not sure if this helps but its an observation i recently made

that's really good info to have. definately gives a starting point to figuring out how long these things will last. Did you go to a full exhaust system or was there another reason for removal?
