2005 F250 6.0L Transmission Wont Move In Reverse

165,000 and no real issues until today. I'll try to describe this as best as I can. Imagine backing up a hill, and your tires spin, then catch, spin, then catch. That's what it's like when I put my truck in reverse. Almost like a surge. My truck has been parked on a hill, with the parking brake set firmly before putting it in park. I back up the hill (my driveway). Today, I was coming home, and attempted to back all the way up the driveway, but the truck wouldn't do it. Ended up putting it in 4-wheel-low, and "surged" right up. I later checked the transmission fluid, and it was, surprisingly, low. I added 2 1/2 quarts. Mind you, I drain my pan every other oil change and replace that fluid, and my filters have less than 15,000 miles on them. As the day goes on, the truck shifts into reverse, with normal RPM guage change, but doesn't move backwards even with revving the engine, at first. After some steady acceleration, it creeps backwards. Forward is fine, although, it does seem as if I have to give it a little more pedal than what I think I should. It rolls fine, but if I didn't know better, I'd say it almost feels like it's being "held back" just a little when going forward. It rolls fine, so I know it's not a stuck brake or something like that. The situation with reverse has me quite concerned though - this is my snow plow truck and we're not too far out from the season beginning. Hopefully I can get this figured out quickly, and somewhat inexpensively.

Quickly, yes. Inexpensively, I doubt it.

The slip and grab causes damage to the clutch. Holding the accelerator down to get the truck to creep finished the job of destroying the clutch. I'm as sure as I can be without actually looking at the truck that it is as good as it will get. It's only going to get worse and worse. The sooner you get the trans out and rebuilt the less damaged/destroyed parts will need to be replaced.
