Guy wants to trade my 67 Bronco for his 67 Wagon....

Hey guys,

I have a 67 Bronco. Body is average... not a lot of rust, but it is a little dinged up from being on a Ranch. It has a lot of potential. I just rebuilt the 289 so it's a daily driver even though I haven't started on the body yet. The guy I knowthat wants to trade even has a 67 Mercury commuter wagon with a fresh 428 engine, no rust, and under primer like my Bronco. He wants to trade even. I am looking for input as to who prefers what.... all opinions and input are appreciated. I could be happy with either, and both have a lot of potential! Let's hear some input......

Keep your Bronco.

Parts availability:

Bronco--everything.

Mercury wagon--engine, trans and axle only. Everything else, especially sheet metal and interior--forget it. Find it at a desert scrap yard or don't find it at all.

Driving experience:

Bronco--good offroad, acceptable on.

Mercury wagon--like herding goats down the road.

Oddball factor:

Bronco--people might think you are an oddball, but they know the vehicle.

Mercury wagon--an oddball driving an oddball.

Only if you want a 428 worse than you want your Bronco.

jmo, ymmv.

Going on strickly economic standpoint, Bronco's have been a hot item for the last six years I have been into them. It would be a whole lot easier to sell than the wagon, many more potential buyers. The wagon has to be a limited market. That said, I'd do what you want. You have a driver, how much money and time will it take to get the Merc to be the same.

Yeah both cars are daily drivers. The more I search for parts availability on both vehicles the more I lean towards my Bronco. I would also miss the 4wd. The Bronco was special ordered with factory limited slip front and rear as well. It will go anywhere! Fuel mileage isn't bad either at 17. That's when I keep my foot out of the 4 barrell. I would love to have a 428, but my 289 is really strong. I also love having the manual transmission.

I saw it pick up in the 90s for some reason, Richard. Nation wide then, still goin. Wonder if it had sompin ta do w/the net? 28 yrs ago when I got mine (a practical throw away) I also got on that Nexus/Lexus an early 'net' searchable library.

Stay away form the wagon...you will never be able to complete it. Parts way to hard to find.

IF you traded you'd hate yourself down the road!

1: Your Bronco is a KNOWN quantity at this point and a DD. You know what it has and what it still needs. Although the guy is promissing the same with the wagon, it's still an "unknown" to you as a new potential owner!

2: Parts availability as been stated. Tons of new and aftermarket parts for the EB to include all brand new sheet metal if you ever needed it due to the following they have.

3: MPG! 17 is WAY better than you'll EVER see from that 428 especially if you plan to use it as a DD.

4: 4x4!!!! Nothing more to say on that one...

I AM extremely biased though, owning a '69 that's DD capable right now and building a '68 for trail duty. I am fond of the old wagons thought and would love to build one someday with a modern EFI'd drivetrain BUT, no way in hell would I ever trade one of my EBs for one!

Hey Fungus!, good to hear from The Islands again. Find a good rust preventative for salt water yet?
8^0
BTW: good luck w/the '68 (must be 1 of 4 @ Oauh).
