Got the f-3 to my house, moved yards of rat poop. 1 hole in rt floorboard. Motor complete, turns over by hand(really jeep power). Bed shot. Is the board that the tire iron is in factory? I read that ford used lumber. If so, what size? Progress will be slow next couple of months. Deer season is here! Then we will try to fire it up. more questions later!

The crossmembers on the express beds were wood. That one does appear to be original. It looks like there's still some remnants of one in front of the axle kickup, too. Check with Bruce Horkey or Mack Hils to find out what replacement parts are available. If the correct parts are out there, one of those two guys will have them.

Thanks for the lead,i thought i had read that they were wood,i do believe they are original. My battery is under the hood, which is where one of my problems is. The back hood brace is rusted in two right over the battery is,
probably from the fumes. has anybody encountered this and how did you repair it? The gas tank is gone, rusted thru and full of what looks like tar. The cab was way better than i had hoped. The bed sides were a little rougher than i had anticipated but all in all pretty solid. This site has great info.
