switch to synthetic!

Last night I changed my oil to rotella t5 10w-30 part synthetic and have to say I am very impressed with the difference. The engine idles and runs much smoother, and is noticeably quieter. I don't think I will ever go back to conventional 15w-40 again. Not sure what I will use for the summer, since 10w-30 is only recommended up to 90 degrees. Maybe I will go full synthetic with 5w-40. Anyways just wanted to share this with those of you who don't already know

Glad to hear you like what you here. FYI I, along with some others are running 10w-30 year around with great looking UOA's.

I run Rotella T6 Full Synthetic 5W-40 and will report back when I get an analysis done.
I have run 5W-30 from the dealer for a winter back in ND. Might be worth it if you see consistent below zero temps.

type of oil + weight

I hve been told that I should not use Delo 400 anymore in my 6.0 engine? I should use only synthetic oil and a 10/30 grade. I see some of you are changing to full synthetic. Has a particular group decided to make this directive or is it a Ford directive for the 6.0. I await chatter regarding this issue. I have personally had no issues with my Delo 400 and still ahve some on hand but if it will make a difference with the longevity of my engine I wil consider changing over to full synthetic

IMHO synthetic oil is better for the 6.0 because the injectors are fired with High Pressure Oil therefore Stiction becomes an issue when it get really cold out
The spool valve in the injectors has a hard time open/closing with regular Dyno oil when its cold and the oil is a thicker viscosity

But I have never seen anything saying Delo oil is bad and if you live somewhere where it dont get that cold probably not a big deal

In my op. the synthetic is also more resistant to coking in the hi temp. areas such as the turbo and egr. I've used syn. for 5 years now and have had zero oil related problems.

I switched to T-6 5w-40 two weeks ago. It totally cleared up an injection stiction problem I was having, however now I'm possibly having issues with my HPOP system. I know I did the right thing by switching though.

I'm with Nico. I switched to 5W-40 at 10k and now at 107k with no oil related issues. My oil analysis reports have been great and the oil hasn't sheared down to 30W on most samples after 5000 miles since the switch to the CJ API standard. I use Mobil 1 but there are other good brands out there as well.

As far as pricing, I keep an eye on Advance, NAPA, and O-Reily as they sometimes have great sales on Mobil 1. O-Reily recently had it on sale for $20/gal and I bought enough for four oil changes. That should get me to the next sale.
