On the bottom of my offenhauser C it's stamped "not for use with water plate". Are there any thoughts on why this is?

It really says that? Can you take a picture? I don't know if I've ever seen that on mine.

@thedudeabides I'd be interested in a plate. Just looking at a basic plate with no hardware or fittings, correct? I am collecting parts for a Offy-In/ EFI-Out conversion in the future and having the plate would be handy to have when I am ready to get into it.

Shoot me a pm.

Thanks,

Matt

will do mrtucker80. gonna do another test run or two, just to make sure the rendering holds true once its burned into the material before i start actually cutting the thicker stuff. i plan on mocking one up with fittings and all to ensure proper fitment beforehand as well.

thats the first i have heard of an offy c, or any for that matter having those words cast into the piece. i'd be interested to take a peek at a pic of that as well. i think my c intake only has a casting date on the underside.

I figured out how to create a photo album, but I can't figure out how to post them here in the thread. All I did was spray paint the area and sanded the paint off the letters so it would show up in the pics. I don't know why the heat plate wouldn't work no matter what is stamped on it. It is new and I've only had it about 3 -4 weeks, never been installed yet.

It's shaped to accept the factory bolt together exhaust manifold, but like I said earlier, I don't know why the water plate wouldn't work. The stamp just got me wondering is all. For all I know, it could be something to relieve offenhauser of any warranty claims, if any arose from a water heat plate.

You might contact Offenhauser and ask them.

One theory - if a person didn't have enough antifreeze in their coolant water it might freeze and crack the intake.

That's definitely new. My C doesn't have that. Very interesting!
I'd agree with Baron that it's more of a liability/warranty thing. They must know that bolting on a coolant plate is a popular mod and decided to cover themselves.

Maybe they think the particular alloy isn't corrosion resistant for some coolants. Or they want to come out with their own heater, and sell you theirs.
