After doing some more investigating, it sounds like I might be able to do the same job with a F-150 (Ecoboost w/ max trailer package and 157" wheel base). The early reviews have been great and this way I'll be able to spend less at the gas pump in-between towing. I tow a 3000 lbs. trailer 2-3 times a week in the summer months and an 8000 lbs. travel trailer once or twice a year.

What do you guys think?

If that's all you are towing you should be fine. The Ecoboost can tow up to 11300 lbs with better mileage in between towing. I don't think there is much of a price difference between the 2 when buying the truck. But the difference would be made up easily at the gas pump.

I think you'd be fine with the F150.

If you drive more than 10-12 K miles per year, yes go with an F150, if not, get the better (more) truck for less money.
You may use that 8000 lb TT only twice a year, but if you go thru the mountains and long distance than a F250 will feel a lot safer and comfi.

Good luck with either one you buy.

I've had mine for 5 months and 12,000 kms. Its been great. No major issues. Trans has been fine. I'm getting about 14 mpgs on avg, 9 when towing my 8000lb travel trailer.

I also looked at the ecoboost, but I'm a more frequent tower, so I opted for more truck. I put 5000kms on my trailer this summer, and figure I'll do more next year, mostly towing in the mountains. Love the power, and I prefer the size of the truck over the ecoboost F150. For your use though, I think the ecoboost would do fine.
