Vehicle is in transport mode

SO I got the call yesterday that my new truck just arrived at the dealer! I went down and checked it out and drove it of course....it was so fresh off the truck that the display read "Transport Mode...Contact Dealer".

I know the dealer of course is going to clear this and prep the truck but I was just wondering, other than the obvious, what does the transport mode "do" to the truck? Limit power??

I will be taking delivery of my new truck this afternoon...post pictures as soon as I can!

It probably does nothing other than the obvious, a reminder to the dealer to do some paperwork to clear the code.

Is this a 2011 model or '12?

" Transport Mode " is an indicator to the dealer to give the truck a complete inspection: all fluid levels, tire pressure, a complete systems check. The dealer will clear this code when everything has been checked. It really is a great idea.

The truck is a 2011. I found that when it was in transport mode, it definitely had less power. I also read that the truck will shutdown if someone tries to refuel it...hence if it is stolen, they won't get far and the car jockies can't toot around on it.

WHen I picked it up on friday, it had noticeable more power...a lot more.

"Transport Mode" is a strategy designed to prevent the battery from going dead while the vehicle is being delivered and is sitting on the lot. It has nothing to do with checking the fluids, theft, or Lucy the Lot Lizard driving the vehicle. It simply disables many of the advanced programs in the smart junction box, and varies from model to model. When in transport mode, you may not have daytime running lamps, the keyless entry may not work, the courtesy lights may not operate, etc. I am not aware of power limits in transport mode, although many vehicles have a limit until a certain mileage is reached, usually 50mi. or less, or a certain number of engine starts have occurred.

On the F150, transport mode is exited by turning the key to "ON," pressing the brake pedal five times, then pressing the hazard switch four times. Even our porters know how to do this, it is not a secret.

Good info "FireMe"...that makes a lot of sense why they would do that. Maybe just a coincidence that my truck had noticably less power when I first drove it while in transport mode.

There may be power limits related to transport mode, I'm just saying I don't remember seeing them published anywhere. "They" don't always pass along all of the details to us, even during new model training.
