Hey Guys/Gals,

Well here it goes with my serious problem, got an 04' escape, 2WD, 3.0L. When driving and turning to the left i get a loud noise. Now i first assumed a wheel bearing but here is the deal, the noise just came up over night with no forewarning of a subtle noise first and then a loud noise, it was just bam loud noise. To diagnoise the problem i put her on the lift and lowered the rt wheel on block to stop it from spinning, did that and got noise, did the same for the left, got noise. Raised up on the lift and listened to the bearings with scope, sound good, like a sewing machine. So with that i want to say it has to be the dif in the tranny? Tranny itself shifts like a dream. Also, i say this is serious problem bc i have been forced to drive my summer/sunshine only day driver, my 2008 FX2!!! Please help so i can put my dream truck back in the garage, its winter here!!!!!!! Thanks again, JAP

 

Could be your differentail gears in the tranny. But have you check you cv shafts? They will make a loud clunck noise when bad. Check the intermedate shaft bearing on the passenger side. How dose the tranny fuild look? Keep us informed.

 

Fordman- i never did get back on to tell you the fix. Turns out it was a front wheel bearing!! Thanks for the help!
