Average mileage after sum mods

Hey guys i have been mostly in the 7.3l form and others, and have been thinking on getting the 6.4l. The only reason i dont want one is the same reason my bro, and many others got rid of his,and thats the bad mileage. I heard that with the dpfe delete and the right tuner that its not a problem anymore. Is this true for the norm, or is that just a few lucky people. Any insight on the typical mileage u guys are getting and is there a better 6.4l to get 08-10 as far as year goes. Thanks in advance.

I have an 08 6.4 dually. love it for pulling my truck to shows. (yours looks nice too!)..

I get about 9mpg towing.. 12-14 the rest of the time, depending on my foot and traffic.

I put a tuner on (Spartan) earlier this year and got 1.5 mpg increase.. but experienced some weird sounds and feel we couldn't recreate without the tuner.. so its back off..

you will NOT get 20mpg, EVER.. with a 6.4

now.. a 6.7 (2011 and up) might in a SRW, 3.31 rear.. (not towing of course), some folks have turned in some amazing numbers. see the 6.7 forum section.

25% improvement over stock is still the exception

6.4l is 2008-2010 only.

Figure that you could tune the truck to get rid of the DPF and maybe a slight increase. Not worth the investment imho unless you are having an issue with the DPF.

Mine works perfectly for my style of use so I am happy with it.

With my SRW and 3.73 gears I can get a consistent 16-17 mpgs on the hwy unloaded.

I wonder if it matters F350 or 250, because every time i see f250s getting the better mileage even with the same gears, its a little lighter but wouldnt think that would make that much difference?

No difference in wt. Mine comes in at 8200 lbs with just me in the seat.

Gearing is a factor as well as break in.

When I first got my truck I did a run to Arizona. About 14 is all I could muster.

Then I hook at a heavy load and broke it in good.

With heavy 35's (goodyear MT/Rs), a 4 inch lift, road armor bumpers and stock gearing (3.73), mine got 17 mpg on a 900 miler, mostly interstate driving, no trailer.

Traveled to Colorado from Central Texas this summer. Traveled with some friends who have a 2011 and was pulling a 5er that came in at about 11k and mine about the same. I got average 9.7 and he got 9.8 towing. Empty, while we were in the Salida, Buena Vista area, I averaged 16, he averaged 17. As far as we could tell, not much difference. Now mind you, this was all hand calculated, did not use the lie-o-meter. They went one way, we went another while we were there. I probably did a little more climbing and backroads and I know more 4x than they did. But still, not much difference.

No difference in wt? as far as i know about 2k lbs or more. I know my 03 F350 was 9900 dry wt. and F250 was a little under 8k? I could be wrong. Never the less I personally dont know anyone that ever got more than 13, and where im from u could say pretty flat, but i guess the wind makes up for that.LOL

Sorry to disagree here. I took a trip from San Diego to Ventura and back a couple weeks ago and got 20.3 with my F-450. Granted that was Spartan tuned, GearVendor OD and 60 MPH, but you did say "NOT" and "EVER".

I have no problem believing that a F-250 with the 3.55 gears could get 20+ with just DPF delete and tune...if you keep the speed down.

BTW, the Lie-O-Meter would like you to feel really good. It said 28.2 MPG when I got done.

yes, in some outside, weird cases, you MIGHT pull 20.. but u have $5,000 worth of updates to get that.. thats a LOT of fuel. and not towing.. you bought a 450 to drive around not working? GV says NOT to engage while towing..
so what do you get towing?

I have 3.55's in my 350 and get roughly 16-17 mixed..... That's with innovatives street tune, I'm gonna run the x-street after I get the truck flashed Saturday..... Should do a little better with that tune?

Towing my 18k 43 foot Toyhauler get 9-9.5 up from 7-7.5 pre delete and tune. Considering I rarely got better than that out of my old 7.3 pulling a trailer that was 4k less in weight...and not as high either...I am happy. Again keeping the speed down 55-60 towing. That was just the delete and tune difference. So $1500 invested to get that difference and saved $300 on my first trip pulling. Again, well worth doing., The difference I have seen just on the delete and tune, I figure it will take about 25k miles to make the difference...less for every mile towing.
