odometer reading out of the truck?

is there any way to see what the mileage reads by giving 12v to any of the wires for the speedo?

Bump...?
You want to basically give power to it to see what it reads?
Im a noob so dont take my word on this, but my logic tells me that any 'mileage' readings would be stored in the PCM not the dash guage thing itself..

No, because then you would have to mess with the mileage amount everytime you swapped PCMs. The mileage is stored in that thing, I believe.

iv swapped out clusters before and its stored in the little chip bored behind the speedo. so in other words, in about five minutes and a spare cluster you can take miles off your truck lol.

yeah i wanna see what it reads, there isn't enough left of the parts truck to just put a battery in and see

edit: i didnt change the cluster for less miles, i just wanted a tach on my old f150. i ended up swaping the original speedo into the cluster w the tach any how, just wanna make sure no one is thinking poorly of me haha

Great link to the wiring diagram! I wonder if that speedometer module itself is replaceable or serviceable?

And for what it is worth, I've read somewhere (on this forum?) that the odometer won't go past 399,999, it just rolls back to 300,000 again and again.

i does roll over ..ive seen it multiple times ..is there any way to read it past this? we got the truck at 309k ..we think we have rolled it over twice to 509 but we have no idea how many times the meter was rolled by previous owner (got truck at auction)

The display is physically incapable of displaying a 4, 5, 6, 8 or 9 in the leftmost digit. It's _possible_ that the actual _value_ is stored in the PSOM, and therefore would be passed to the PCM and show up with some device plugged into the OBD-II port (AE, etc). But no one who knowingly has turned their odometer past 399,999 has actually tried this and reported it to any of the forum sites, not to my knowledge anyway.
