Clunk in rear end - play in axle?

Hey guys, got an interesting one for you. I've noticed a clunk the last few days that has probably always been there but for some reason I'm hearing it more. If I take a corner quick sometimes I'll hear a small thud or clunk, it sounds like something rolled around in the bed.

So today I stood at the side of the bed and if I rock the truck hard enough a relatively loud "clunk clunk clunk" noise comes from the left rear (and maybe the right rear) wheels. Sounds like its coming from the drum.

Is that just axle play? I know the axle has a tad bit, since just c-clips hold them in the diff, and my bearings aren't loud at all. Or is it just shoes moving around in the drums?

Just wondering if this is normal. Thanks fellas.

Drive shaft is tight, exhaust is definitely a different noise. That squeaks haha.

I'll jack'er up and rock the axle by hand, maybe its the u-bolts or something. It just feels like axle shaft play or something in the drum brake to me, just by how it sounds. Hmmf.

It's the U-joints or slip joke for sure, i've never seen play in an axle, they usually just fail (broken teeth) and you will notice that easily.

As in exhaust secured from sway, causing the noise when rubbing/hitting

I meant side to side, not front to back. As in, I was standing on the side of the truck and rocking it like I was going to "roll it over."

After some extensive searching on here and online, looking @ different brand/model trucks as well, I've chalked it up as normal. Seems its either worn c-clips in the axle, drum brake noise or leaf springs shifting.

If my wheel flies off, we'll know for sure!

Hahaha yeah, I haven't been that lucky yet. Nah in all honesty it's not that bad. Only happens once in a blue moon when driving.. (the clunk). I'm just overly paranoid now because I bought the truck in June but it's just now becoming my DD, since snow is only a month away.
