64- tail lights won't go off

Have a problem we can't figure out. While driving my 64 the rear tail lights go on by themselves, and then won't go off. You must disconnect the battery to make them quit working. When you re-connect the battery the lights are out, but again after a short trip their back on.
Another question on a 64 do the front park lights stay when the headlights are on? My park lights only come on in the position before the headlights when pulling the switch.

We thought the headlight switch was bad, so I replaced it yesterday, but soon learned that had the same problem.

I would appreciate any suggestions,
Thanks, John

Is your brake pedal rather stiff? you might have the brake lights on... I had that happen a while back! I backed off the brake adjustment just a bit and all was fine! Also it may be the turn indicator switch, if it fails your lights will go haywire!

The park lights are suppose to go off when the headlights are on. There is a way to get them to stay on when headlights are on I dont have a wiring diagram in front of me right now so cant tell you where to put the wire to make that happen. Did you have the problem with the tail lights before you changed the headlight swithch? Are you sure its the tail lights and not the brake lights that are staying on.

Thanks for the information on the front park lights. Yes I had the problem before the headlight switch was replacement. I have two sets of rear lights, and brake light set is operating correctly.

Sounds like a ground issue.
