I just hope I'm right. Ignition timing shouldn't kill the mileage that much unless it is waaaaay out, and it would have to be retarded to do that. One thing in the carb that can be off is the fuel level, but I've never seen that kill performance although I guess it is possible. And, there's the accelerator pump, but if it isn't working you should have a stumble when trying to accelerate.

So, keep us posted. The 2150 is probably one of the easiest carbs to learn on. Take your time taking it apart and lay everything out in the order you take it off. Don't overtighten things going back on - it is a carb not a head, and the metal is pretty soft. Good luck!

ok thanks.. and what do you mean have a stumble when trying to accelerate? and i found out im not supposed to have a electric pump in the tank.. come to find out the previous owner got a different tank from a truck thats a earlier year model and it had a different sending unit.. so now i have to also order a different sending unit..

A stumble is when you press the accelerator and nothing happens for a second or so. That's caused by a lean fuel mix condition and is usually a result of the accelerator pump, which is a diaphragm in the carb, failing. But, if the power valve is bad the extra gas it gives can mask that problem.

Your issue with finding the right sender is why I resist changing components from one year to another. I don't want the next owner to have that problem.
