Necessity is a mother...

Went to go for a drive on New Years day. Got in the truck and stomped on the foot feed twice, as that is how my truck likes to start, but on the second stomp the pedal went to the floor and stayed there. (Hadn't keyed the ignition yet). So yeah the two year old aftermarket accelerator cable snapped. With no way to get a replacement right away I had to do something, if for no other reason than the truck is my ride to work, where I had a good used cable from a parts truck. So what I ended up doing was removing the broken POS and went into the garage, where I could not find a piece of thin steel cable for the life of me. What I did find was some stranded 12 ga copper wire. House grade. I stripped back about 18'" of the wire and twisted it and stuck one end into the piece that went to the pedal, threaded it through the sheath, and put that in the truck. I then eyeballed about how long it had to be then soldered the other end to.. the other end. Reinstalled it and went for a drive. It lasted long enough to get me to work Tuesday but not a mile more. Just wanted to spread the word in case someone finds themselves in a similar situation.

I initially thought to myself to just run a piece of twine to the carb and working it by hand but decided against it. It might work ok with an automatic transmission but with a manual transmission behind a 352 that will roast the tires, or an axle in the blink of an eye I decided against it.

The repair

Broke the same place as the aftermarket parts.

Question Throttle cable.

Just curious, do you think that the body may not be grounded enough?

No, Kenny. I put so many auxiliary grounds on this truck it's not funny. Matter of fact there is one that bolts to the pedestal for the cable bracket, to firewall, then dash. I have cab to frame block to frame to battery to bed, good...
I think my original just wore out and the replacement was low quality.
