Need some guidance in the removal of EGR valve on a 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L engine. 4 cyclinder.

There is a pipe with 1 1/16 inch hex head (approximate) that is threaded into the EGR valve. Anyone know specifically how to break it loose? There is minimal clearance to get a regular wrench in there to get a good grip. Is there a special tool or device that works best? Anyone have any experience with this particular EGR valve removal. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

 

Ratchet crescent wrench???

 

Too big of a wrench. No clearance. Ratchet will not work.

Thanks ranger pat. That is what i was thinking. Have you had to replace your egr valve? Was that the tool you used?

 

Are you certain you need to remove or replace your EGR? What is your reason or code?

 

I replaced mine just a little while back. Yes, it wasn't easy to get the wrench in there, but after working at it for a bit I found a way. I just can't remember how I did it.
