1992 f150 msd distributor swap NEED SOME HELP!!!

hopefully the title grabs enough attention lol its not that big of a deal. but this is unframiliar territory so i need some help. in a previous thread i had some coil problems so i'm just gonna step up the distributor to an msd and eventually a 6al etc. basically where i need help is finding out if the 87-93 5.0 distributors by msd will work on f150s as well as mustangs. i figure it might need an adapter plug or somthin(no biggie) but based off all the stock photos when it comes time to shop, they make it difficult to tell. any input would be appreciated if any of you have swapped in an msd in the past thanx- mark

why do you need an MSD unit? Honestly the stock distributors are plenty for our rigs.

if you must go this route you need to determine if you have a remote mounted tfi or if the tfi module is mounted on the side of the dizzy. if you call summit i am sure they will make sure you get the correct model for your rig.

I also wouldnt bother with the 6AL boxes. the stock ford ignition is plenty once again.

92 is remote. If you want a super good spark cannot go wrong with a 6AL. Depends on what your goals are. If you want the MSD dizzy, just buyt the ready to run pro billet.

The ready to run is perfect for a truck. Go to a JY you can find 5.0 Explorers all day with heads/intakes everything.

There is no vacuum advance it still uses the SPOUT if you get the correct model.

Mark the distributor at the base , and where the rotor is pointing before you pull it out , so you can put the new dist in at the right spot , the base timing will need to be reset after , is your 92 a roller , some 92-93 had the small roller cam , if it is you will need a steel dist gear , msd may make a gear that works with both ??....

alright guys, i got my distributor in the mail yesterday.to my dissapointment it had the tfi module on the side like for a mustang. now i'm wondering if i have to send this back or get an adapter harness. i been lookin on the web for such a harness and i'm not finding much. you fellas know of such a harness or should i just send it back for a different one? its got a steel gear on the new dizzy too, so i gotta find out if my 92 is a roller or not. any ideas on figurin out if its a roller?

It's all the same plug just the wires might not be long enough. When you order stuff like that you should really talk with a phone rep to make sure you are getting the right part. Anywho, the TFI module just unscrews from the distributor, so take it off, and put it on the heat sink.

You need to find out if your motor is a roller or not , if its not , your going to need to change the gear from steel to cast , the only way i know is to pull a valve cover and look though the push rod hole with a good flash light and see if you see the dog bones on the lifter , the 92-93 were hit or miss with the roller cams.....Lew
