garage sale....no time for build.......

hey guys...........i thought i would share this with you. i was bored so i went to a garage sale. a military family was on the move soon so they needed to sell off somethings. when i got there i almost immediately saw 2 boxes of pistons. 1 box said probe industries and the other said speed pro. when i asked about it, i was told that a mustang build would have to wait and family prioritys came 1st. lucky me!!!!! i was told pistons were sitting for 5 yrs. so i opened the probe industries box and turned the piston over and it was a forged dome pistons +8.0 .040 (srs) sportsman race series full float pistons. the speed pro was forged flat top 2v relief .030 full float pistons. when i asked what the pistons were going to be used for i was handed a piece of paper with #'s on it. this is what it said.......

probe industries pistons +8.0 .040
302w est. compress. ratio
1.6 compress height, 3" stroke, 5.090 rod
cyl head vol= 58cc 61cc 64cc 68cc
compression= 11.40 10.91 10.46 9.93
can be used w/boost and/or nitrous

option 2 probe pistons
393w est. compress. ratio
1.6 compress height, 3.850 stoke, 5.956 rod
cyl head vol= 58cc 61cc 64cc 68cc
compression= 14.32 13.69 13.12 12.44

speed pro pistons flat top 2v relief .030
3" stoke, 5.090 rod
cyl head vol= 54cc 60cc
compression= 10.09 9.37

i asked where did these #'s come from and was told that this is what the machine shop came up with for what he had wanted to do. i asked what he was asking for the 2 sets. he said $800.00. after throwing around some #'s i walked away with the 2 sets for $600.00. to me i thought that was a deal for the both sets. after i paid for it i start thinking what it would have really cost had i paid for it at the store. i'm thinking of using it for a future build for my 94 flareside 2wd 302/5.0l. as for using boost and/or nitrous i'll see what happens when i get there. my fiance was slightly unhappy and gave me the look. oh well........it is what it is..........i'm happy. the only thing i need for the pistons are the rings. probably go gapless??

Its cool and all you wanna build a motor...but why buy both sets?

I personally would've held out and bought a complete rotating assembly for a 347. I see this potentially being much more expensive as now you have to piece-mill everything else to fit these pistons.
