Ideas for CHEAP used possibly new turbo setup!
Hey there, I have an 86' F-250 with a 6.9 IH engine! I replaced all the injectors and lines, and turned up the pump 3flats. I am wondering if anyone had any alternative turbo ideas besides the $2000 setup for banks. i only am looking for 6-7 psi boost. deffinately single digits, i dont want to kill my engine...any ideas? thanks!

don't get a turbo if you are only looking to get 6-7psi. my truck makes 5 psi if i go full throttle from stop. My friend has the the same truck i do just no turbo and our trucks are even in the power department. i drove his truck one time and began to wonder why everybody was saying that a turbo was so great.I honestly still wonder that. I feel no difference in 5psi vs. N/A. if you don't want to make hardly any boost numbers (as far as these engines are concerned) then a turbo is just not worth it. i think to acctually have the turbo be of any benefit you need to be running at ~10-11 psi of boost. those numbers are still safe for these engines.

I agree with snapon. I have a '93 7.3 N/A and a '94 IDI turbo and there is a BIG difference when towing! However, if you're not gonna be doing much towing and you only want 5 PSI of boost then don't bother, just do a 3.5 or larger straight thru exhaust, cut the soup bowl off or do a custom intake. Since you have the pump turned up already, I hope you have a pyrometer.

Thanks guys, i have a pyrometer, and i have a dual head cold air inake to match the extra fnuel with more air. and she will stay n/a for a while cus she still needs to be regeared so i can actually hit 65 and cruise at 55. right not shes not running. theres a wire that is hanging. a ground. i have no idea where it goes. it just turns over over. with ether it flutters right up bbut dont fire. i may have fogotten a ground strap when doind the dash but i know this wire under the hood had something to do with it. anyone know any whieing schematics online?

Well theres one wire hanging its on the left (passenger) side of engine. its not tach sender wires, however it is right behind altenator. it had a plug on it that looks like a tach sender plug. i counted two wires hooked to my fuel pump. is this correct? i believe this is a ground? but not sure. thanks!
