Hanging my Canopy or Cap

I used 2 8' 2X8 to hang mine from the rafters in the garage ( just make sure the rafters can support the hanging load) to load and unload my 500lb gem top.
I put eye bolts in each end of the 2X8's and used 4 ratchet straps to lift.
I always wanted to mount a pulley system with a boat winch on the wall but never got around to it before I sold my canopy.
If you have a lite weight fiberglass top maybe the 200lb kit from these guys will work for you

I did that for my old Bronco. Except I didnt use 2x4's. Instead it was a flat hook that lifted from the bottom edge of the top with a strap in between that went from one side to another. This kept the weight of it hanging from "spreading" the top. Took about 5 minutes to put it on, and about 10 to take it off as I had to position the hooks.

I had a Top Cap Lift in my garage that worked great. Just sold it to my buddy since I don't have a cap anymore. Pics below. They make different types for over the rail/on the rail caps. I had an on the rail cap (where the cap sat directly on the bed rails, didn't hang over). You can see where the tie downs would hook under the rails, then just crank it to the ceiling. It was EFFORTLESS. I used to walk with my cap on my back from the backyard to the front, then lift the stupid thing onto the bed of my lifted truck (this was on the 2000 in my sig below). This thing saved my back, lol...
