If you're non turbo its behind your air intake. If you are turbo its on the driver side valve cover.

if your N/A its under the air cleaner on the back side of the motor near the glow plug relay. looks like a tuna can... there is a bolt holding it down. take it off and soak it in gasoline or mineral spirits/parts cleaner.

Gasoline is what you use to clean the thing! That's what i've been using to clean mine for a number of years....

What eats the diaphragm is people shooting compressed air in it. You HAVE to let it air dry.

I've learn you can use any "solvent" to clean a CDR.

Gas is a solvent, and that's what everyone I know uses.

Compressed air will damage the diaphragm.

My 7.3 has 377k on the original CDR. Before being a member here, I had no idea about the CDR, and only started cleaning it a few years ago. I checked it's operation, and all was good.

could you remind us on correct testing procedure?? i have 3 of them and i just rotate them out every oil change after sitting in gas and air drying for a while...i guess i dont really need it anymore with my RDT into the exhaust...but seemed to help compared to not running it..

Take it out, theres a little vent hole on the bigger face part, put your mouth on that little vent hole, and stick your finger in the hole on the other side (where it connects to the back of the intake) and blow in the vent hole. Your finger should feel the diaphragm inside move. If nothing moves, your CDR is bad.
