F10JL698734 / Does the 240 come in V8 too?
No, the only V8 offered was the 352 2V.
Welcome to FTE

F10 = F100 2WD

J = 240 1V I-6.

L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant.

698734 = 1965, assembled June 1965.

1965/66 F100/350: The 240 1V was standard equipment, the 300 1V I-6 & 352 2V were optional.

Compare the VIN on the registration with the VIN on the Warranty Plate (located on the left door face below the latch) to see if they match.

People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99% of the time, they did not install the original Warranty Plate on the used door.

If the VIN's match, the engine has been swapped.

As long as it runs ok, drive the puppy. Swapping engines is a long time favorite thing to do among Ford enthusuasts.

Whatever V8 the truck has now is has to be better than the 240 I-6. 1965/66: When introduced, it was in-famous for two things: Oil leaking from the valve cover and burning oil.

Ford fixed the oil burning issue, but the valve cover continued to leak oil for many years, even though Ford replaced the valve cover and gasket multiple times.

In addition to the VIN on your state title, the VIN on the warranty plate attached to the driver's door, there is a VIN stamped onto the top of the passenger side frame rail. I don't know if the location varies by year or building factory, but my '66 model built in Kansas City has the VIN stamping starting at 30 inches back from the end of the frame rail (where the front bumper bolts to it) and continuing back along the rail about six inches. If the VIN on your frame rail starts F10D that's the 1965 code for the 352 2bbl V8. Can you tell by looking at your engine which V8 you have? If someone has swapped a v8 in where a 6 used to be it could be one of many choices. Good luck.

That would be a part number, probably for part of a crossmember or something attached to the frame. The C5 denotes that the part was a 1965 design (which makes sense on a 1965 truck). NumberDummy will probably chime in and clear it up, he's a pro at parts!

The number is C5TA-HU 19C.
Welcome to FTE

This is the ID Engineering number and date code for the frame.

C5TA-HU = C5TZ-5005-H .. Frame Assy.

19C = Assembled March 19, 1965 or 1966.

The 11 digit VIN is what your truck is registered by, so will be on the title.

It's also found on the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.

Nothing has been confirmed.

The frame ID number doesn't mean squat...because the same frame with the same ID number was used in 1966!

What's the visual difference between a 1965 and a 1966 F100? The grille is different as are the front fender emblems, but..

These parts can easily be swapped around, so if this is the case, there is no way to tell one year from another...by looking at it.

Frames were not made by FoMoCo, they were bought from American Frame and Axle, who made 1000's every day. They stamped the Ford ID number/date on it

This also means that the date of March 19, means nothing, as it could relate to 1965 or 1966.

Now theres some some great information to learn about Ford. #Dummy does that go for the Ford cars as well? Was it just for those 2 years in Ford trucks?

Well in reponse to numberdummy. My truck is mostly orignal. i know for a fact that it has the stock grille and emblems which in my opinion show thats its a 65 due to the grille being the 18 square design without the two large ovals. The emblems are placed on the back top of the fender unlike the 64s that have them on the sides of the hood. Also my truck as the Twin I beam front end setup which proves that it has to be a 65 or 66. But the best way ill be able to tell is the find the vin which is being a pain due to the warranty plate on the door missing and also in the glove box so im starting to look on the frame in the place i read in one of the post on here. but im still working on gaining acccess to the area.

Look for your VIN on top of the passenger frame rail about even with the alternator. You may need a piece of sandpaper.
