1968 ford f250 ignition stuff need help!!

Well pretty much I am wanting to convert to electronic ignition on my 68 f250 that has a 360 in it.. I recently had replaced the original distributor with a reman. Napa dizzy. And am now looking into getting a pertronix ignitor III electronic ignition unit and flamethrower III coil.. The problem is that the unit says it only works with a certain number of dizzys and napa ones are not one of them.. So my question is if I'm wanting to switch to electronic ignition will I need to buy a new dizzy or will my current one work with the pertronix system? (and does anyone have anything to say about pertronix units also..).

Thanks in advanced,
Corey m.

It would be less trouble to run a Duraspark from a 74 & newer 360/390. You could even use just the Dspark dizzy with an aftermarket ign box, like Mallory, Crane, Summit, or MSD. A reman Dspark is: NRD 482897

Corey, Can't totally agree with Dale, The Petronix is an excellent upgrade from stock. I am not sure of the difference between II & III. I believe I am running a II in my truck.

You need not be concerned from where you purchased the dizzy. You will be buying for a 68 With a FE 360. That is about all that is required.

The Duraspark is also a very good upgrade.

Thanks for the advice,
If you don't mind me picking your brain a bit more I'm leaning towards the pertronix II upgrade with the Flamerthrower II coil. When you converted to the ignitor II Did you change the distributor also or where you able to keep your stock distributor? And what do you think about the product overal?

No you use the standard/stock distributor. Now should you have wear issues with your distributor and it needs changing you still will have to.

The Petronix replaces the points in the distributor.

The Petronix is a very good aftermarket ign system. The Duraspark is a Ford ign. system. Either is better than the original points system.
