Question Help and or opinions on racetrack trim on 78 f250 Ranger

Hi all,

I recently purchased a new (from the wrecking yard bed) for my my 1978 ford f250 ranger and was needing some ideas. Originally the truck had both the upper and lower racetrack type trim, but the new bed only has the upper trim and not and never had the lower trim. I was going to put the lower trim on the new bed, but I ran into a few problems, first I dont have any good lower trim, and second, the new bed has in-bed toolbox so I couldnt use just any lower trim from any pickup. Oh and if I dont go with the lower trim I am just going to make it one color, because I had heard that the lower trim was originally used just for two tone paint jobs. So I guess I am kind of just needing some help, ideas, suggestions on what I should do with this problem. Thank you for any help that you may have.

There are two ways that I've seen that the factory did two tone without the lower trim, one is the second color goes from the upper trim all the way down, the other way is the same shape as if there was the race track trim but without any trim and there is about a 1/4" pinstripe around it. You can get the lower trim from LMC but its expensive and I don't think they have any that would deal with the toolbox.

Found this example of the 2nd way I was talking about. I guess it's the bicentennial edition but I've seen it without the eagle or the red stripe.

I have a spare piece of trim for the toolbox if you decide to go that way.

Ok thank you grinnergetter! I am not 100% certain yet what I am going to do, but I think I may just take the lower trim off and make it simple. Then someday get the lower trim installed on the 'new' bed and put the old trim back on the cab. Thank you again
