1986 Ford F 250

I bought a 86 F 250 with a 351 windsor that has a 4 barrel carb on it. My question is, did they come out with carbs in 86?

Don't believe the 351W, 5.8L, got fuel injection until 88. I could be wrong, but I;m pretty sure the 86 was carbed.

Yeah, the H.O. 351W was a 4V carb + DSII until the late 80s IIRC, as was the 460 I believe.

DSII == DuraSpark II, sorry for not being clear.

Ford's electronic ignition at the time, the first version (DuraSpark I) was introduced I believe in 1973.

Duraspark II

300-6 and 302 got EFI in 1986 only.

1987 being the last year for carbs, on 351 and 460 only.

I also have an 86 250 with a 351 carb'd, the under hood deck sticker says non-catalyst. I live in NJ and am concerned about vehicle inspection. I did not go with QQ tags but this is something I am considering. Any input about vehicle inspection?

The wrecking yards here is CA are full of carburetor 1975 to 1987 Bronco and
F 150/F250.
because the smog requirements prevent these vechicles from being registered in the state. The EFI models can still pass inspection.
Had to give away my nice running 1985 351W 4 bbl Bronco.

What is your concern about vehicle inspection, Golden Girl?
Emissions???

Are the emissions controls on your engine in place and properly functioning?
Has it had a recent tune up?

Should have sold it out of state...
Someone could make a killing shipping southwestern rust free trucks to our salt belt states.
Most states just require vehicles to meet the emissions in place on their date of manufacture.

According to my sources, 300 in 86 was still carb, went to fuel injection in 87.

From what I remember, EFI was optional in 1985/86 for an additional cost, the feedback carb came standard.

302's had optional fuel injection in '85 and '86, that I'm sure of. I've never PERSONALLY seen EFI on a 300 until '87 and 351's and 460's until '88.
