Never owned a Diesel
Hi,
I recently have had lots of interest for a diesel truck , found this one online for a price that I can afford.
What should I look for when viewing this truck? Its a 1990 f 350.
Will it pull a 3 horse trailer?
How is the transmission in these?
How do they start in Canadian winters?

Thanks

Yeah, she'll pull a lot more than a 3 horse trailer.
It has a 5-speed which is almost bullet proof. Low miles, 4x4, F350, dually. Looks nice. As long as the rust isn't too bad and it doesn't have much blow-by and the SCAs are kept up, you will be getting a good deal in my opinion.
Search the site for SCA and blow-by. Very common topics.

Hmmmm, that looks like a factory cab/chassis truck with an extended bed, 2 boxes welded into 1 to make it fit.
Does look alot longer than a regular 8 ft. bed.
Looks great! Looks well done!
She'll defenently pull what ever you can hook to it! If shes in nice shape, not bad of a deal at all!
If the glow plugs, controller/relay, wiring, batteries, cables and starter are all in good working order, no reason why this beast shouldn't start on the coldest days you'll see in NB.
Do a good search on this forum on cavitation, coolant additives and SCA's. All 7.3 owners must inform their selfs on this!

nice lookin pickup.... you'll love that solid front axle i wish i had one. dually is nice for stability when pulling tall top heavy loads (5th wheel campers).
definantly check out the SCA situation. though it has low enough miles it shouldn't be a huge issue yet if you get the truck i would change the antifreeze and ensure you use one with it in there
dieseljohn may have caught on to something there.... looking closely at the picture..... now it could just be the angle of the shot but it looks like the blue on the bed and the blue on the cab/fenders don't quite match..... close but not quite in my opinion. thats not a reason to run away just and observation

she's not stock.ford never offered a 4x4 dually pickup like that pre-'99.
you couldn't build that truck up like that for the $.be sure you don't let it go.
70k miles as claimed,or 170k doesn't matter much for that $. nor would 270k actually.the price would start to make sense then.
something must be up.
inspect things closely.she may be completely rotted out under there.

if they had pickup beds,then someone either;
a.set a pickup bed on a C&C.
b.converted a SRW 4wd pickup into a dually.
c.converted a 2wd dually pickup into a 4wd.
d.you where mistaken about seeing a front axle.
option b is the easiest, cleanest looking, most cost effective way to build a 4wd dually pickup.
this is how i did it of course with the f250.though most strive for the D60 (mainly for bragging rights more so than actual use) the D50 does have a great advantage for those of us with limited off road duty.it sits lower, thus making the rear of the truck stay low.important for work trucks that require manual loading of the bed with heavy items.sitting lower also helps with fuel economy too.
as far as i know, ford never offered a "pickup" 4wd dually pre '99.
if you ever happen to see a gas job 4wd pickup (non c&c) dually before the superduty/1999,please post the vin.id like to run it.
