Cowboy, I had two short beds and I'm very happy with the long bed. I wouldn't go back. But for me with the GN Horse trailer, The extra 2 feet means two extra bales of hay in the bed with the trailer hooked up.
I am replacing my 2008 short bed with a 2012 long bed; major reason is to get the larger fuel tank that comes with the long bed.
I like the looks of the short bed, and it is a bit more nimble, but I always thought it was silly that I bought a big truck with a short bed.
But I can see why they sell a LOT of short beds.
Cab clearance lights. That's a bottom of the list 'cool to have' item, not a need.
I always spec these or retrofit them (yup, drill the roof) as I see them as a need. When towing a 15k+ flatbed at dusk or night they really mark out the size of the vehicle and let other road users now there is a wide, long and heavy load coming through.
As regards 8' bed vs. 6'8" bed, I prefer the look of the "shortie" but the space and especially the extra fuel range of the long bed seal the deal. Ford should add the larger tank to the short beds like GM and Dodge BOTH do.....
NOPE, I'm sure it has to do with the price of Tires. I went with 18's thinking they would save me a lot compared to 20's. I was wrong....17's or down, ..size wise will save a fortune.

That and the extra sidewall is very handy when on the trails or a rough job site.
The only thing my truck needs is a way to put child seats in quick. Just cause its work truck doesn't mean the kids don't ride along. Using the seatbelts to hold the seats in was how they did it in the "stone ages". If I'm missing something I hope somebody can enlighten me.

That's a good point! I have 2 seats that go in and out and it is a pain.
If you were close by Tampa Fl, I'd trade my fold out floor for your under seat storage box. I don't use mine but I used the boxes under the seat in my previous trucks.
Well now, that's just an invitation to a road trip!
Seriously, I would swap in heartbeat. Had to load several hundred pounds of feed in the backseat last week due to threatening weather, and I was really hating not having those platforms.

Plus one thousand. I don't understand why the rear seats don't have the LATCH system. It's a pain the **** putting in two child seats but they sure do love the truck!

Fortunately, 2 of my kids are in booster seats, so those go in and out easily.
I leave the car seat for the third, on the passenger seat side for two reasons.
1) I can still open the 60 side of the seat;
2) Protects them from being hit on the drivers side from someone going over the line, or me pulling out in front of someone...(granted it could happen on the other side too)
