Sticky Ignition Key Position

I have this issue with my ignition switch getting stuck on the "ON" position. I'm getting tired of having to remember to back off the key to a safe position, lol. Do I just replace the Ignition switch? or do I replace the whole assembly (switch, mount, bezel & cylinder)?

Thx!

Shoot it heavily with WD40 while moving the key in & out & turning it far left to far right. Should see a big improvement.

Don't worry about too much of the WD40 either, won't hurt anything.

Jowilker,

Thank you for the reply. I will disconnect the battery and shoot some WD40 into it.

Thank again

I have just replaced my ignition switch because it would stick and let the started motor run-on. After seeing the internals, the WD-40 should clean it up. There is a dab of factory installed grease at the end of the ignition key cylinder that is probably solidified or gunked up. With your key and a paper clip you can remove the lock cylinder for closer cleaning and lubrication.

I don't know any reason that you need to disconnect the battery, the switch itself is not hot. You can repete the spraying & turning until you are happy that it is free as it can be.

If it makes you feel better though, please do so.
