Water in doors

I am finding that after a heavy rain that water is running out of the bottom of all four door drain holes when I open them.I have not noticed this on any other of my previous vehicles. Is it "a" good that they are draining well, or "b" bad that water is getting in in the first place?

Water coming out those holes has to be a bad thing. Inside those door panels are power window motors and electrical harnesses. I know which holes your speaking of and I can't say I've ever noticed water come out of them. Are the seals for the window channels messed up?

Check your exterior side window wiper seal trim. It must be bad. Unless your driving in deep water. New side window wiper seal are not too hard to find.

As I say it is all four doors, the seals don't look too bad but have a slight gap at the ends. I will check another Escape when I get the chance and compare. My driveway has a slight left to right slant,it is possible that on level ground the doors would not drain.

Are they easy to fit?

After doing google searches for this issue and on one really getting a real answer. I talked with my buddy at the body shop. I asked if it would help to just cut a small piece of the rubber weather strip out that blocks the hole from draining. He said that's what he'd do.

After all that drain hole is there for a reason, to keep water from building up in the door.

So I just used a piece of tape to mark the bottom of the door below the drain hole than closed the door, put a piece of tape on the rocker panel by the other tape on the door, then opened the door, cut about a 1/2" high, 1" long piece out of the rubber.

Closed the door, used the hose to put some water on the window and down the door, I could see water coming out from behind the door finally.

Next time it rains we'll see if there water in the door when we open it.

You don't want water sitting in there.

There was water in the door this AM, I just trimmed the rubber a little more higher. If it rains tonight, I'll check in the AM.

In another thread I show pictures of holes that I drilled in the bottom of the doors. This did the trick. The window seals are not designed to keep all the water out, they are a "flow through" design. This was a few years ago with no sign of rust around the holes.

Thanks, well keep that idea in my head. It didn't rain last night so I couldn't see if the second trimming worked.

May be tonight.

Update, still have water in the door. Tonight I removed the piece of weather stripping. I'll check in the AM. Lot's of rain coming tonight.

Oh well, that didn't work. Just opened the door and water came out of the rear hole in the door. It's been about an hour since I last posted.

Update, yesterday she drove the truck into the parking spot where it normally sits in the driveway. It did rain last night, about 10PM for a short while, when I opened the door this morning, no water came out of the door drain holes.

I have not put that weather stripping back on yet. I'll do that over the weekend and see what happens when the next rain is do Sunday night. I'll have her drive it into the parking again.
