Rod to cable - throttle options

I have been having a lot of trouble lately with my throttle linkage and gas pedal setup on my 54 223 6 with a 1904 Holley sticking, binding, etc. I have been contemplating doing away with the stock pedal and throttle linkage rod and switching to a cable type setup. I have seen it done on replacement motors and carb upgrades so I think it is possible with a 223. I am seeking suggestions/ideas about whether that would be a good idea or not. I like the looks of a Lokar type pedal with a cable. Would that work? If so, would it require massive fabbing? Thanks for your thoughts.

I put a cable set-up on my '56 F-250 223 I6 several years back. I had to make a bracket for the carb, similar to the manual choke bracket.

I bought a short cable from Napa, can't remember which one, but I had the parts guy bring several ones up and I picked through them.

They sell a linkage kit in the parts stores that have all the little hookups for the carb, you can adapt one for your single barrel to work with the cable.

The pedal set-up was a little more difficult to do. I ended cutting the cable shielding back and using a pulley. I had to make a bracket for the pedal and bolted it onto the pedal. I wish I had some pictures of the set up but I sold the truck a couple years ago and didn't take photos when I did it.

Hopefully some of this helps ya out.
