Talking How to Ford in dash CD changer repair FIXED!!

I put together this tutorial after experiencing the no cd, cd full errors. I tried to make the guide simple enough to follow so that the average Joe could complete this repair themselves. This guide is intended for people who are experiencing the common errors and or just want to remove their cds without scratching them.

I have the tutorial in word and pdf but could not figure out how to upload so I posted it on google docs. If someone wants to post the pdf as a direct attachment let me know and I can email it. I did not proof read it after google conversion so easy on the criticism. I'm just trying to put something back after taking so much from this site.

No criticism at all, but I dont think the google doc link works 100%. Only gets down to separating the unit from the shock cage and then nada. Any thoughts Radmacks? Really appreciate your posting this fix out there!

Hello Radmacks,

I would be interested in a copy of this writeup if you still have it. I would really like to fix my radio. The link you have doesn't show everything.

Thanks.

I had found that a plastic worm gear had split, allowing the drive motor to run and not move the disc's. I put JB weld on the gear and shaft assy, and now it is working fine.

I did a quick search for this and it sounds like some guys were able to get it working again by disconnecting the power for a bit while others had to replace their head units. May be time to go aftermarket. Sounds like a tossup though...

talked to an installer at a radio shop last night, he said it wont work but I'm sure they just want to sell me a new head unit, going to try anyway this weekend, my wife doesn't really care about cd's anyway.

thanks

Wow, I just came on the forum just to see if there were any people having this CD issue and here I find that this is common! and a fix file posted (I understand, my mileage may vary).

Thanks so much!. I'm going to give this a try this weekend. In the meantime I found that if I loaded a CD, let it spin and return "No CD", then pressed load again for the same CD slot#, it would finally "see" the CD about 80% of time. Slow... but I got by for a while. Now I need to (try to) fix it.

The tutorial is great. Thank you. In my case the plastic gears (mainly the worm gear) from the motor which separates the CD layers is completely gone. Does somebody know where I can get the complete gear assembly or at least the single gears?
