Thought I would post this for some of you to check on your vehicles while they are still under warranty. First on the list is the hood that sticks out above the fender! How on earth a quality inspector allowed it to leave the factory looking like this I don't know.. When I first noticed it I took it to ford dealer with a body shop they of course gave me that look of "What a whiner I can't believe he's complaining about this", took my number to make and appt and never heard from them. I took it to another dealer recently and they have agreed to fix it, not sure if the hood is warped or the fender is low.. will be interesting. It is very noticeable from the inside looking out.
The other issue I just noticed this morning. I have always thought that the quality of the doors and the way the metal skin is bent over on the back side looks like crap. I really noticed the poor craftsmanship on these things when I bought my white expy vs the 07 black. Anyways, it appears that the folded part of the door is rubbing on the inside of the vehicle when you close the door. This is happening on both sides, I only took pics of one. Here are the marks on the truck.
and here are the corresponding marks on the door
Dealer has agreed to have it looked at when it goes in for the hood fix. I have also developed a metal clinking sound from the driveline after I shift into gear and press the gas. It is now easily repeatable in both fwd and rev, so service rep heard the sound, hopefully this might solve my vibration when letting off the brakes.
Best part is they will need it for a few days and they will give me a focus or escape as a loaner. I have 3 kids to drive around who are all in car seats. Is there not some requirement to provide a similar size of vehicle? Not sure if I should make a big deal about it, but it will be a huge pain, the wife and I will have to swap vehicles mid day in order to coordinate drop off/pickup. I didn't spend this much money to be driving around in a focus. Ahh the joys of owning a domestic vehicle.
Thanks Tylus, Put in a call to Ford customer service toll free and the "Manager" is going to call me back to the discuss. Will demand rental of Expedition or Navigator.
as far as paint issues...it's kinda tricky. I want to say it's a 7 yr corrosion warranty. but there are provisions and restrictions.
for rust/corrosion, it's pretty cut and dried. they'll fix it. provided you are within 12k or 1 yr of purchase. otherwise, you essentially have to wait until the metal completely rusts through. i went through this on my 2006 F-150. I found it at the 11 month point. Any longer and Ford would have said "Me so sorry"
I've learned my lesson the hard way with buying new Fords. Bought 3 of them new in the last 5 yrs. Each had major issues with paint, 2 of which I had to get repainted in areas.
Strangly, my F-250 is a 2006 with zero issues. I've been over that puppy with a fine tooth comb. Can't find anything. just a little orange peel. Silver lining in the clouds finally. Not even a rock chip up front. just 1 scratch on the tailgate.
I personally would just fix the hood/fender alignment myself, and adjust the door striker to stop that contact. it's easier for me to do it than waste my time letting a Tech do it. especially with the whole rental process
