The companion flange (Ford basic part number 4851) will be found between the driveshafts rear u-joint and the rear axle.
It's splined on one end to slip onto the rear axle's pinion gear. On t'other end, the rear u-joint attaches to it, then to the driveshaft.
Every Ford vehicle with RWD and an open driveline (no torque tube) has one.
But, I've never heard of a companion flange press. Why someone would need a press to install a companion flange, I dunno.
Look here to see myriad examples of the puppy: 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Volume II = Illustrations, pages 100-109.
8C-4851 .. Companion Flange: 1948/52 F1 & 1953/56 F100.

I yet to take the flange out i was looking in the manual and it said to use a companion Flange press to re install. Well I have always considered this a yoke with a pinon seal behind.I need to change the seal and looked at the manual about the rear end break down and saw the name companion Flange. I really dont think it is a big deal to change but when I saw that companion flange press got a question in my mind. Thanks for your help.

Edit: I guess some very-late model D44's use crush sleeves, like 2007-up. Not ours, tho.
