Want to install AUX/Backup lights

Hey guys!

Looking to install some aux backup lights. I want them to be powered when I am in reverse OR with an upfitter. I also want the trailer backup lights to be powered in the same manner.

Will this work for what I want to do? Thanks!

Yup.

I think the diode going to the upfitter is optional, but would put it there for good measure. The other diode is correct as you dont want to send power back to the BCM if its not expecting it.

Ah, another electrical project! The upfitter switches have relays in them, so all you need to do is run an approriate sized wire from the correct relay (Up#1 is 25 amps, Up#2 is 25 amps, Up#3 is 10 amps and Up#4 is 15A) to your lights.

If you want to run them off of the reverse circuit, you will need to stick a relay in the back and run a power line to the back and connect it to terminal 30. Obviously your lights would replace the backup alarm on terminals 85 & 87. And your reverse light red wire (+) would go to terminal 86. When you put the truck in reverse, the relay would kick the power on 30 to the lights. Here is the thread with a picture: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...me-help-5.html

Also, Beezil provides the part numbers in that thread for the Hella relays. I can personally testify that these relays are top notch and are made for outside usage.

Used upfitter switch #4, ran wire to the rear, split off to each light, and ground each light. Works great.

I was just going to mention the relay idea and Marauder beat me to it. Use the relay to switch between the 2 power sources (upfitter vs. reverse circuit). Have the reverse circuit normally closed so only when you put power to the relay does it kick over to the upfitter.

Yes, but for this simple of a setup, diodes will work fine too.

I did the same with a set of Hella driving lights from Susquhanna Motorsports.
