Jet Performance Chip... You guys were right.

I had some money to throw at the truck and before I researched it on here I bought the Jet chip. Then I figured i'd search it on here and found that nobody liked it. I figured it was already coming and has a 14 day return policy so I threw it on just to make sure. I followed the direction exactly and made sure to get all that protective junk off the circuit board. Hooked the battery back up, started the truck and... Worthless. I can't tell a single thing has changed. I'm not saying that I don't feel $250 worth of performance i'm saying it didn't do anything at all.

It's headed back tomorrow, I think the $250 will probably go towards an MSD ignition, any other suggestions?

Sincerely,
Won't make another purchase w/out looking it up on FTE first.

Aftermarket ignition components only help if you have additional performance components to make use of that extra spark. I would spend your 250$ on/toward a nice cam.

Since when has adding a cam ever meant an engine rebuild? If your motor is solid there is nothing wrong with adding a cam without a rebuild, have done it NUMEROUS times with windsor blocks with no ill effects. If you have speed density though, your choices are quite limited. In a truck your not going to be using a crazy high lift cam anyway as you would bleed off all your compression and lose that low end power.

I vote upgrading the exhaust! That's a good band for buck upgrade with noticable improvements.

Already done. It has a 3" system with a free flowing glasspack that sounds awesome. The dealer tells me that a 65yr old man traded it in on a car because he didn't need a truck anymore and didn't want to buy the gas for it. Well he must have been the coolest 65yr old man in Bozeman because everyone tells me that my truck sounds like a race car.

Actually I have a little more money I can put with this and the more I think about it an air compressor setup for my garage sounds like the best plan.

so your running headers and an aftermarket or customer Y pipe? if those two things have not been done focus there.

a cam swap would also be next and a rebuild isnt necessary

It's actually pretty common/safe...there's nothing idiotic about it. To be on the safe side, you'll probably want to replace the valve springs.

srsparky32 sounds like you have a case of the "This one guy told me this one time..." syndrome. Don't pollute threads with that garbage. What you said is not necessarily a lie, but definitely an untruth.

well I heard that putting in a cam and so forth in a engine that's not new can have long term effects

Putting a used cam can because sometimes they wear to the specific motor that they were in. A new cam in a used motor, good to go. I however haven't even had a problem with a new cam as long as it came out of a roller motor. Flat tappet puts a little more pressure on the cam.

Is it suggested to put a Roller Cam in a non-roller engine? I have a 1990 with the 5.L 302 and I've heard putting one in would reduce wear on the hydraulic lifters/etc.
