F250 - Lariat - What goes here

On my F250, there is a cubby by my right knee under the steering wheel.

I mounted my radar detector here, but noticed when I pulled the cubby out, there was a wire connector on the back not going into anything.

So I am guessing on some models, perhaps KR, there is something in this cubby that requires power, what might it be?

Now I'm going to have to take a look at this area in the morning as I don't remember anything there!

That area is filled with a key lock to control the passenger air bag in regular or extended cab trucks.
I thought I had a picture saved but I don't.
I'll take one tomorrow.

Thats what it is. Crew cab's don't have that, I believe it is automatic on/off based on the passenger's weight.

I have an extended cab Lariat and mine is just the cubby hole, no key lock for an airbag.

Well now that's interesting.
Do you have a light on the dash, to the right of the TCS off button?
Dark if airbag is on and illuminated if airbag is off.
I got home after dark last night and didn't take a picture.
I'll try again tonight so we have one for this post for future readers.

The wire gave me no voltage with a multimeter, with parking lights on and off, I was hoping to use that wire to power some LEDs under the dash to light the floor.

but that then got me wondering what went here, because this cubby otherwise is USELESS. Anything you put in it, will spill right out with any acceleration, so I ended up hiding my radar detector there.

I made a mistake. I do have the key option to turn off the passenger side airbag. When I read the original post, I was thinking about that void space under the steering column. So I just went out and double checked, so I was wrong.

I think it might have to do with the ability to put child seats in the rear, especially rear facing seats.

With the regular or extended cabs you have no choice but to put a child seat in the front, but with the crew cabs you have the option to anchor them in the back.

Exactly, but on the crew cabs there is nothing to say that passenger airbag is off, think its always on.

I too am under the impression the crew cab air bags are always on.
