Installment of fan shroud

Is it possible to put the stock fan shroud in place of my 54 with the stock fan by simply removing the top radiator hose/pipe? Or is it better or easier to remove the fan? Or must both the hose/pipe and the fan be removed?

I have to removed and re-installed the fan shroud on my '52 F-1. No matter how long I spent scratching my head trying to figure out how not to remove other items, it was best to disconnect the hoses at the radiator, loosen the clamps at the goosenecks and swivel them out of the way. And yes, removed the fan as well.

Interesting question, will be following this one to see what others have to say.

Last time I did my 52, I cut the sucker in half and welded a flange on so I could bolt it together. Top and bottom halves now. Easy to work on now but, not an option if you want originality.

Bump on the top.....

Thanks to Scott and Joezzz for replying. But they both have 52 trucks with flatheads. Can any owner of a 54 to 56 Yblock give me advice? I held my shroud up to the side of the radiator as close as I could get it and right now i think I got to remove radiator elbow pipe and fan. I will definitely have to remove the fan as the fans fits into the shroud opening.

Anyone know for sure?

Hi Abe. I drove a 72 for years with a warmed up 351... loved that truck. I was pulling out of a side road one Saturday morning and wound it up then I heard "bang ! crash !" and several sound I don't know how to spell. Then nothing ! Just a quiet engine and a little vibration. Shouldered it quickly and shut it down. Popped the hood and could find nothing wrong till I finally looked toward the fan and saw the missing blade. Sheared off right at the rivets and other than the noise did only one thing. It cut the fan shroud completely in two at the 9:00 position. I fished out the piece and checked for more damage or leaks and nothing appeared. I got it home and fought with the shroud for a good half hour. After removing hoses and fan and spacer, leaving me cut and bleeding it finally surrendered . The radiator wasn't touched (lucky me !). I had a light bulb moment. I cleaned up the cut on the left side and made an identical cut on the right.. Like Scott I added two flanges (3/4x3/4 light angle iron) on either side that bolted together. Painted it all pretty and it took two minutes to reinstall it. I agree about show quality restorations but if it ain't that, cut that devil and save your blood. That shroud was made from some type of plastic or fiberglass. Metal might be a little harder to do, but well worth it

I know you are a stickler for original abe but I did as the others have suggested too and both halves can be installed without disturbing any of the other parts. Putting the fan back on with the shroud is a major pain..

Thanks guys. I got it now. Thanks for responding. I was looking for a short cut but many times when you try a shortcut it takes longer and gives you more problems. I now know that both the fan and upper hose/pipe must be removed.
